National unemployment reaches 5.12% in December 2011

National unemployment in Romania stood at 5.12 percent at the end of 2011, with the lowest unemployment reported for Ilfov County (1.67 percent) and Timis County (1.90 percent), and Bucharest City (2 percent), Chair of the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) Elvira Rodica Antonescu told a press conference.
At the opposite end, there were Mehedinti County (9.74 percent), the counties of Vaslui (9.61 percent), Teleorman (8.87 percent), Covasna (8.57 percent), Dolj (8.55 percent), Buzau (7.77 percent), Gorj (7.68 percent), Galati (7.65 percent), Alba (7.59 percent), Ialomita (7.42 percent), Olt (6.81 percent), Salaj (6.41 percent), Harghita (6.33 percent) and Dambovita (6.33 percent).
The best faring development region was the Bucharest-Ilfov region (1.96 percent), while the South-West Olteania Rgeion - comprising the counties of Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinti, Olt and Valcea - fared the worst, with an unemployment rate of 7.55 percent.
In November 2011, national unemployment was 5.06 percent, up 0.3 percent from the month before.
