Mazars engages in the protection of rainforests, in partnership with Conservation International
MAZARS ROMÂNIA S.R.L. - 14 May 2010
Within the framework of its social responsibility and environmental strategy, the Mazars Group has engaged in the protection of tropical forests in Indonesia alongside Non-Governmental Organisation, Conservation International.
The project encompasses the Group's social responsibility and environmental strategy (Partnership Social Responsibility) by focusing on three key themes: respect for our environment, support of cultural and social diversity, support for social entrepreneurship through skills-based sponsorship.
Every year, partners of the Mazars Group from 56 countries around the world meet together at a unique place for the Annual Partners Conference - a key event in the life cycle of our partnership. That's why, Mazars decided to take a symbolic step forward by measuring its first Carbon Print® on this occasion. The Group measured its carbon footprint during the Convention which took place in London in December 2009. The Group measured its consumption in terms of energy, trips, services and consumables, waste and immobilisations during the international Conference and throughout its preparation. It turns out that more than 1200 tonnes of CO2 were emitted. As a result, partners were consulted and the majority voted for the voluntary compensation of 50% of greenhouse gas generated during the event; the equivalent of 600 tonnes of CO2.
The project for this voluntary compensation is devoted to the protection of the equatorial forest in Indonesia, in partnership with Conservation International. Mazars' efforts will help to preserve the Gede Pangrango National Park, located south of the Indonesia capital, Jakarta. The park has a water reserve for around 20 million people and is home to an abundance of endangered species such as monkeys (Gibbons and Lutungs), eagles, falcons and leopards.
Mazars participates in 'Earth Day' in Indonesia
Meanwhile, Mazars' teams in Indonesia are undertaking efforts (started in 2009) for the reforestation of the Gede Pangrango National Park, using a 'neutral paper' approach. On 22 April 2010, Mazars' teams in Indonesia undergo a reforestation operation to mark the significance of 'Earth Day'. Each year, dozens of Mazars professionals in Indonesia invest in tree plantation operations to compensate for the use of paper in the workplace.
Mazars in Romania initiates another spring cleaning day at the Botanical Garden
In early April, Mazars Romania has initiated a spring cleaning campaign at the Botanical Garden of Bucharest, shortly before the Botanical Gardens Spring Cleaning action (May 2010) and 20 years after Romania first celebrated Earth Day. Besides the participation of the volunteers in this action, Mazars had equipped the institution with necessary tools as well.
„This action is part of a large project of constant involvement of Mazars employees in this sort of activities. We were more than pleased to see that our employees brought their friends and children to join us in this endeavour and we thank them for their commitment. The garden of our city is one of the Bucharest main attractions and we are proud to contribute in maintaining this special place and to strengthen the example multinational companies should promote.', declared Simona Stefanescu, Marketing and Communication Coordinator.
