Between 3 and 6 November 2011, all 25 real, - Hypermarket Romania stores will host 'Local Producers Apples Fair', an event that aims to promote the apples consumption, as a component of a healthy lifestyle. 5 varieties of Romanian apples can be purchased for the single price of 1.99 lei/kilo.
The fair is part of real,- initiatives to propose its consumers a highly attractive offer of Romanian products, to encourage local agricultural production. In fact, the apples presented in this fair come exclusively from Romania, from 5 producers in Bistrita-Nasaud, Sibiu and Mures counties, orchards recognized not only at national level, but also abroad, for the rich production of high quality apples, with unique taste, very much appreciated. In total, 200 tones of apples from 5 varieties arrived in real - stores especially for this action.
'real, - has no restraint in giving priority to the Romanian apples against the export ones and the reasons are numerous and strong. First of all, the climate characteristics, geomorphology and soil regions from Romania facilitate the production of high quality apples, in several varieties very popular with consumers. Then, the shorter logistic chain for the local fruits enables us to quickly bring on our shelves the crisp freshness of some healthy Romanian apples, similar with the ones just picked from the tree. Third, Romanian producers need and deserve a helping hand in order to be able to sell this year's very rich production and for the local or regional apples brands as Batos or Voinesti ones to be able to regain their fame' said Michel Lamoot, Managing Director real,- Hypermarket Romania.
'I never thought it could be that simple to deliver directly in a hypermarket. In this very fall we started to work with real,- and I can say it is the only client whose demands we did not meet easily, due to large orders placed over a relatively short period of time. I learned that when it comes to fruits farming, it is impossible to fail reaching success for one who has good fruits and I can say that although we operate on a market where we have strong international competitors, we, the Romanian producers, started to gain more awareness and market share. The people do appreciate the quality of the Romanian apples, their great taste, in Romania but also abroad. I am very happy to participate at this fair that promotes Romanian products and for this weekend I delivered 60 tones of high quality apples” said Aurel Onigas, General Manager SC Pombis, one of the Romanian Local Producers participants at the fair.
About apples and their benefits for the health:
- The calories content and large amount of both insoluble and soluble fiber it contains make the apple a fruit recommended in order to prevent health problems associated with low immunity of the body.
- The soluble fiber in apples cuts the risk of heart attack and stroke by keeping cholesterol levels low. The pectin, a type of soluble fiber that helps diabetics because it acts as a thickener and slows digestion, slows the rise of blood sugar. Pectin also seems to reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver, creating another front against cardiovascular disease. A reduced risk of cardiovascular disease has been associated with apple consumption.
- Several studies linked apple consumption with a reduced risk for cancer, especially lung cancer.
