The world’s highest team building takes off!
BRAINOVATE - 5 December 2011
A Bucharest based and British run Leadership Development organisation has launched what is believed to be the world’s highest team building programme.
Brainovate have hooked up with sky team member Tarom to provide an unique 'airborne' team building solution for their local and multinational clients.
The idea came about when Managing Director Oliver Perkins was flying to visit an international client and in his words was 'writing emails, aimlessly peering out the window and flicking through the in-flight magazines ' when he realized, not for the first time, how much wasted hours are spent at airports and on the plane. The question arose what if the flight itself could be seen as a quality business development opportunity as opposed to catching up time.
This is when he hit upon the idea of Build your team in the air™.
Of course trainers, leaders and their teams fly all over the world every day to conferences, team building and events. But what if executives and their teams could use this time constructively, then surely the flight would be an end in itself not just a means to an end.
But can you really build your team in the air?
After all we shudder at our summer time experiences of middle aged men and women on cheapo flights running up and down the aisle, climbing over each other and screaming obscenities at 10,000 feet. Even with the drinks trolley at hand, it would be unlikely to be a winning formula for the board of a multinational.
Instead, says Perkins, we set about compiling a number of team profiling and business and leadership development exercises that individuals could complete whilst in the air.
Brainovate then set about building a complete package that involved an introductory expectations session at the client's office before departure and a series of exciting team building and leadership tasks when they arrive at their destination. Also incorporated into the programme is some relaxation and pampering time with yoga, scuba diving and mountain biking available.
We know that airlines provide hotel recommendations and a host of exotic locations to choose from. What Brainovate did was to add team building and leadership development to the mix in a ready-made package. The idea, though very simple, seems to be taking off, if you excuse the pun, with airlines and companies all over Europe queuing up to build their teams in the air.
