Vasile Andrian, the second Romanian appointed Partner of Mazars Group

Vasile Andrian (37), coordinator of the Audit & Financial Advisory Department of Mazars in Romania, has become the second partner of Romanian extraction in this international organisation.

His appointment to the management structure of Mazars Group which comprises 760 partners on a world level took place at the Annual Partners' Conference, held in London quite recently, and occurred two years after the appointment of the first Romanian partner, Gabriel Sincu.

Thus, Andrian becomes the third partner in the Bucharest Office of Mazars, alongside Jean-Pierre Vigroux, Managing Partner, and Gabriel Sincu, Head of the Tax & Outsourcing Department.

'The favourable vote received by Vasile, which confers on him the position of international partner of our firm, confirms the remarkable evolution of Mazars in Romania in the last three and a half years. Bucharest is no longer only a little flag on 'Mazars world' map since it ranks now among the top three Mazars offices in Central and Eastern Europe, as regards both the number of professionals and turnover. We rejoice at Vasile's achievement which represents the crowning of a 15-year career in the audit areas, and we hope that our partnership will last for an ever longer period of time and will grow every year concurrently with Mazars business in Romania,' stated Jean-Pierre Vigroux and Gabriel Sincu.

Vasile Andrian is a graduate of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, the Faculty of International Economic Relations, a qualified auditor and certified internal auditor (CIA). He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania (CAFR) and of the Romanian & International Associations of Internal Auditors (AAIR & IIA). He has a more than 14-year experience in financial auditing and commercial, financial and accounting advisory services; until 1999 he worked with Coopers&Lybrand and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Here is what the new partner stated: 'I am honoured to join Mazars partners' team and believe that this promotion is yet another reflection of the importance which Mazars attaches to the Romanian market and the consolidation of the local Office. Side by side with my colleagues, I hope to continue the evolutionary trend of the last few years despite the less optimistic economic forecasts for this year, as well as to consolidate Mazars position as one of the major players on the audit and consultancy market in Romania.

Currently, the audit market is facing a rather difficult situation, owing to a significant pressure on audit fees and quite pessimistic predictions for economic growth, which compel companies to further show reservation about future development or potential investment, facts that implicitly affect audit and advisory services which would be particularly necessary in such situation.

Although we avail ourselves of appropriate resources and abilities to approach the audit of very large and complex companies (as we have proved so far in our experiences with such clients), I think that in 2012 the greatest part of our client portfolio will further be made up of medium to large companies. As most of our audit clients are subsidiaries of multinational groups, we wish to diversify our portfolio by developing relations with Romanian contractors and local companies. In addition, we hope that the transactions market will revive in the second half of this year so as to stimulate the services related to this market segment, although it shows no sign of recovery in this respect.

We shall continue laying emphasis on the quality of services and communication with clients, which has always been a highly significant factor of promotion, hoping that it will further contribute to developing our local office by assimilating Mazars brand to a quality brand.'

In the Romanian market, Mazars is one of the strongest audit and advisory players, ranking sixth among the top similar companies with a turnover of more than EUR 4.2 million in 2011. The local team includes approximately 120 professionals (auditors, expert accountants, tax consultants and lawyers) who tailor their approach to the specific requirements of every client, irrespective of such client's size, business or objectives. This type of privileged partnership with clients, in compliance with the Romanian, French, German or British legislation, along with the vast expertise and competence of company's professionals is the forte of Mazars team.

In 2011 Mazars received several important awards: three (3) awards from among the awards for excellence granted at AvocatNet 10 Year Gala: 'Advisory Company of the Year,' 'Transaction of the Year' and 'The Best Internship Programme;' the Chamber of Tax Consultants of Romania granted Mazars the 'Award for Special Achievements in Tax Advisory;' CECCAR granted it the award for contribution to the organisation's development on its 90th anniversary.

In the world, Mazars is currently the sole audit and advisory group that, since 2004, has published an annual report containing the Group's consolidated financial statements, prepared and audited in accordance with IFRS: www.annualreport.mazars.com

Private Equity confidence across Central Europe bounces back as investment community deals with the 'the New Normal'

22 05 2012

The last six months have shown a cautious recovery in optimism among the Private Equity community across Central Europe, overturning the record decline in confidence that was recorded in the autumn of 2011. This is the key finding of the latest edition of the Deloitte Central Europe Private Equity Confidence Index, which shows that a general moderation of the negativity affecting investors last year is also clearly reflected in a substantial increase in M&A activities across the region in the last six months.
