Romania's Central Bank (BNR) announced another record low of the exchange rate today, of 4.3127 over the single European currency, owing to a strong regional drift prompted by a higher aversion towards risk.
The new historical peak outpaces the reference exchange rate established yesterday, of 4.3098 lei per euro.
The leu's decline is strongly tied to the regional trend. All emergent currencies continued to lose ground during this session, a dealer on the market told NewsIn.
The national currency began the session at 4.2850 lei per euro, but dipped constantly to a peak of 4.3223, in line with other currencies in the region. At 1:20 p.m. the euro was traded for 4.3153 - 4.3253 lei.
In the region, the zloty fell from 4.2860 to 4.3485 versus the euro and the forint dropped from 279.85 to 284.94.
BNR's reference exchange rate indicates a 0.7 percent climb of the leu versus the American currency, to 3.3364 lei per dollar.
On international markets, the U.S. dollar waved around 1.2946 and 1.3082 against the euro and at 1:20 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.3009 dollars.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits lowered to 6-8 percent per year, bellow the annual key interest rate of 10.25 percent.
