AVAS receives firm bid and request to extend deadline for Avioane Craiova's privatisation

The State Assets Realisation Authority (AVAS) on Friday received a bid for the take-over of the Avioane Craiova airplane factory from Alenia Aeronautica of Italy and a request to extend the deadline for the submission of bids from the Bucharest branch of EPS Inc. Tinton Falls, AVAS informs in a press release.
The privatisation of Avioane started on October 20, 2008 with the publication of a sale announcement for an 80.9778-percent stake in the factory. Buying the presentation file of the company were four potential investors - Alenia Aeronautica of Italy; EPS Inc. Tanton Falls of the US; Grampe Bucharest and Airbus Germany.
Following talks between the Economy Ministry and AVAS, a decision was taken that AVAS continue the privatisation because the Economy Ministry has failed to register as a shareholder in Avioane Craiova SA. The privatisation continuation is already approved by the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Justice and Citizens' Freedoms under a draft government decision and it is expected to be passed by the Government.
Avioane Craiova (ACV) was established in 1972, with its main object being airplane and ship building and repairing. ACV is the sole manufacturer of military airplane in the Romanian aeronautics industry and the maker of the NATO-compatible IAR 99 Soim training aircraft for the Romanian Air Force.
The company is also licensed to carry out motor vehicle maintenance and repairing works, metal construction, component manufacturing, electrical installation works, anticorrosive isolations and protections, design services, city planning, other technical services, research and development.
ACV has a highly specialised design and execution workforce in the aeronautics filed.The company has no environmental problems and the flexibility of its industrial processes is said to allow it to adjust itself to new projects and increase production. Avioane Craiova also manufactures sub-assemblies and equipment for the civilian aviation that meet the SR EN ISO 9001 standards, being AEROQ, OMCAS, AACR and AFER certified. The company is a PART 21 authorised manufacturer of structural components and sub-assemblies for the civilian aviation.
