Rombat posts highest battery production

Rombat Bistrita car battery producer reported the highest battery production in the company's history in November last year, reaching as many as 196,032 pieces, according to a press release submitted on Tuesday to Agerpres.

Rombat, the largest Romanian car battery producer, posted some 53.9 million euros in turnover last year, up by 11 percent against the previous year, with the recorded profit amounting to 5.6 million euros, up by 21 percent against 2007.

'Our strategy for 2008 targeted the expansion nationwide, by opening 5 distribution centers throughout the year. The total investment necessary for the inauguration of these centers stood at nearly 2 million euros. Each Rombat center accommodates a modern showroom, a warehouse that can store more than 8,000 batteries and an auto service, where the customers can benefit from effective service for the car's electric wiring and complete service for batteries', informs the release.

Rombat company (northeastern from Bucharest) posted good results in terms of sales as well, with a 19.8-percent rise in sold batteries compared to 2007. As regards the sales market, the export market share rose from 39.5 percent in 2007 to 50.9 percent.

'Given the dwindling demand on the original equipment market, we will continue to raise exports. We have business partners on the markets in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Moldova', Ioan Repede, Rombat managing director said.

The company plans to stick to its investments this year, targeting the rise in production capacity and recovery capacity of lead from used batteries, which were turned into waste. Also this year, Rombat intends to enter a new sector, namely the electric power production from renewable sources, by means of some micro-hydro power plants.

The total budget allocated for investments in 2009 amounts to 10 million euros. Also in the investment plan for this year is included the opening of another three Rombat centers.
