World leader on the video-projector market for the last seven years, Epson recorded last year a turnover of over 4.4 million euros on the projectors segment, 66 percent up from the previous year, according to the Futuresource Consulting 2008 rapport.
The company sold last year 5,960 projectors, 84 percent more than in 2007 and became market leader, with a 28 percent market share. The financial results are mainly attributed to the tug of the last two quarters of the year. The company assumed leadership of the market in the third quarter and by the end of the year the sales volume hiked by 166 percent versus the previous months and by 69 percent versus the same period in 2007. Sales value increased by 129 percent in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter and by 48 percent against 2007. Consequently, the market share rose by 28 percent year-on-year and reached 49 percent at the end of the year.
Epson believes the market will head upwards this year on all the three segments it addresses, the educational environment, business and home cinema. It plans to leave the business area aside for a while and focus on the other two segments.
Epson belongs to the Japanese group Seiko Epson and is the world leader in image-related products, including printers, projectors and LCD screens. It employs 93,279 people in 107 companies worldwide and recorded consolidated sales of 1.347 billion yens during the fiscal year 2007.
Epson Europe B.V. is headquartered in Amsterdam, employs 2,400 people and answers for Europe, Africa, Russia and the Middle East. It registered 1.854 million euros sales in the fiscal year 2007.
