Automarket hurt by low crediting

The biggest problem faced by the national auto fleet renewal programme, a.k.a. as the "Junk Car" programme is loan accessing being more difficult than last year, putting the 60,000 old car replacement 2009 target at risk of being missed, Mediafax quoted the vice-president of the Association of Car Makers and Importers (APIA) as saying. The "Junk Car" programme might begin within a maximum of ten days, if everything goes well. He also said that in order to buffer against the difficulties met by potential customers, APIA thought a formula where leasing is also part of the "Junk Car" programme.
The APIA official specified that the start of the "Junk Car" programme might also boost the sales of new autos, along with significant dealer discounts.
European support for romanian automotive industry
The Ministry of Finance will support the involvement of the European Investment Bank in Romania to support the automotive industry, in conformity with decisions made at the European Union level, Minister Gheorghe Pogea and EIB Vice-President Matthias Kollatz Ahnen agreed the day before yesterday, according to ‘Gandul' daily. ‘In connection with EIB's future operations in Romania, the Ministry of Public Finance continues to support the bank's contribution to supporting the automotive industry, in conformity with the decisions made at the EU level', the ministry announces. The economic stimulus plan prepared by the European Commission provides for a contribution of EUR 2 bn from EIB to assisting the European automotive industry.
The European Commission proposes a public-private partnership for the purpose of helping carmakers develop environmentally-friendly technologies and encouraging measures such as the reduction of charges for ecological vehicles.
Auto tax decision deferred until EC answer
The Romanian Senate Commission for economy, industries and services postponed yesterday the draft law approving the Government Emergency Ordinance on institution of the pollution tax for motorcars, Agerpres reports. Environmental Ministry officials called for the decision to be shelved given the Economic Commission is yet to give an answer on the matter at hand. "This month, we will have an evaluation over the first matriculation tax in order to have a final point, after all the surveys we make, also taking into account the environmental protection needs of the Romanian economy and the interests of the private individuals and legal entities in Romania," the head of the Executive said.
Government is to hold talks with the EC on the content and amount of the environmental tax but also about how the tax is levied in Romania.
