Isarescu: 87 percent of the private debt is banks' debts
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 19 Februarie 2009
Over 87 percent of the private debt is represented by the private sector, yet it is manageable to finance, the central bank's governor Mugur Isarescu said on Wednesday.
We have the confirmation that the credit lines of the mother-banks will suffer a renewal in 2009, for the commercial banks operating in Romania, the BNR governor added.
In the private sector a gap of balance is rather prefiguring, Isarescu said. He gave the example of the leasing companies, where re-financing has scanty chances to be re-engaged.
Isarescu said the attitude of cutting the rating starting from the hypothesis that there will be a phenomenon of simultaneously withdrawal of the money from the banks is 'tendentious'.
We don't know how much the current account deficit in 2009 will be, but I want to specify that in the first part of the year, the current account deficit stayed at the same level of 2008, around 16.8 billion euros, while a severe aggravation of the deficit was anticipated. The error was severe, Isarescu ended.
