Bucharest outstanding loan repayment close to 490 mln lei

The outstanding loan repayment amassed by the clients of the Bucharest-based commercial banks and non-banking financial institutions - both individuals and companies - totalled 488.335 million lei on Dec. 31, 2008, up by 95 percent on Jan. 2008, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced in a statistic survey on the Population's Financial Behaviour made public on Thursday.
Companies and individuals had yet to repay 250.048 million lei of their loans at end-Jan. 2008, the survey shows.
The balance of the leu crediting amounted to 21.952 billion lei at end-2008, with the current installments to be repaid standing at 21.463 billion lei. At end-Jan. 2008, the total balance of lending - companies and individuals - was of 17.488 billion lei, with current installments amounting to 17.238 million lei.
The balance of the loans taken by the economic operators was 11.290 billion lei of the total, up from 9.136 billion lei at end-Jan. 2008, i.e. a rise of 23.5 percent.
Lending to the population totalled 9.113 billion lei, up from 7.069 billion lei on Jan. 31, 2008, marking a 29 percent rise; out of this amount, the consumption credit was 8.464 billion lei (6.492 billion lei at end-Jan. 2008), which is a 30 percent rise; housing loans totalled 388.225 million lei (378.391 million lei at end-Jan. 2008), up by 2.64 percent; and 147.531 million lei was loans for other purposes, up from 98.430 million lei or up nearly 50 percent at end-Jan. 2008.
The foreign exchange loans (euro, dollars, other forex in leu terms) on Dec. 31, 2008 totalled 48.221 billion lei, out of which 47.886 billion lei was current lending and 334.75 million lei was outstanding credit repayment, i.e. a rise of 0.69 percent from Jan. 2008, the BNR survey says.
