Bourse placements by foreign investors overcome withdrawals by lei 300m in 2008

Foreign investors placed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) some 1.9 billion euros, 300 million euros more than they withdrew but the buy-sale balance was still on the red, shows data by the market watchdog CNVM.
Foreigners withdrew 1.49 billion euros last year from the BSE.
The buy-sale balance stood at 55.36 million lei, buys amounting to 2.57 billion lei and sales to 2.63 billion lei. British investors bought the most shares, accounting for about 18 percent of all BSE acquisitions but they also closed 64 percent of the sales.
Similarly active were players from Cyprus and Luxembourg, with over 13 percent of buys, while Austrian and U.S. players accounted for over 30 percent of all sales.
On the bonds segment however Luxembourg investors were among the only buyers last year, with 97 percent of acquisitions and together with U.S. players they answered for 96 percent of the sales.
Last year was considered the worst of the BSE history, indexes crushing by as much as 84 percent. The market's main index BET lost 70.47 percent, while the BET-FI index of the financial investments sector collapsed by 84.05 percent.
