ACT Media – news agency - 27 Februarie 2009
Romanian exports dropped in the last two months of 2008 by over one billion euros - 700 million euros in November and 627 million euros in December, according to Constantin Nita, the minister of small and medium companies.
He declared that exports reached a level of 33.6 billion euros in 2008, on the rise by 14% , but "the positive results of foreign trade are due to the values registered in the first 6 months, November and December being acute manifestations of the world economic crisis."
Foreign trade was 89.7 billion euros, registering an increase by 11% compared to the value of 2007 - 56.13 billion euros representing imports and 33.6 billion being exports. Last year, over 70% of overall exports were meant for EU countries, while 29.6% of exports represent goods delivered in the area outside EU.
The minister of small and medium companies pointed out the importance of orienting exports toward countries which used to represent important commercial partners for Romania. We should thus increase commercial relations with countries like Moldova, Russia, China and India.
At present the ministry has 130 commercial councilors in 74 world countries.
