Preliminary talks BNR-IMF in Washington
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 3 Martie 2009
Vice-governor of the National Bank of Romania, Cristian Popa is in Washington for preliminary talks and consultations with officials of the International Monetary Fund.
Spokesperson for the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Stet, told Agerpres that the BNR vice-governor is in Washington and stressed that following the recent meeting between PM Emil Boc and Governor of the BNR, Mugur Isarescu, the initiation of preliminary talks and consultations with the International Monetary Fund was agreed. He also said that preliminary talks took place with officials of Brussels.
The authorities of Bucharest take into account a new stand-by agreement with the International Monetary Fund, but also the collaboration with the European financial institutions EBRD and the European Investment Bank, which consider a priority.
Analysts believe that a prospective financing agreement with the European banks should be accompanied by an agreement with the IMF, because the European institutions do not have the control mechanisms on the unfolding of loans, whereas through the concluded agreements, the Fund can monitor the efficient use of the funds.
