Romania's leu recovers at closing bell and waves around 4.30 versus the euro

Romania's national currency, the leu, stood at 4.3050 against Europe's single currency at the end of the day, after a session when it lowered to above 4.31 and then recovered at 4.30, in line with emergent currencies in the region.
The euro was traded for 4.2950 lei on opening and climbed to 4.3158 half an hour later. The exchange rate settled around 4.30 lei per euro afterwards and at the end of the session the national currency began to lose ground once again. Banks were buying an euro with 4.3030 lei and selling it for 4.31 lei at 5:05 p.m.
In the region, the Hungarian forint plummeted from 302.85 to 307.78 versus the euro and the Polish zloty sank from 4.6970 to 4.7845, but then advanced to 4.7470.
The leu lost 0.18 percent versus the euro according to the reference exchange rate established today by the central lender BNR at 4.2986 lei per euro and 0.87 percent versus the U.S. dollar, to 3.4147 lei per dollar.
On the international markets, the U.S. dollar waved between 1.2547 and 1.2635 versus the euro and at 5:05 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.2605 dollars.
BNR initially posted an average interbank bid rate (ROBID) of 13.96 percent a year, under the 14 percent of the previous session and the interbank offer rate for overnight deposits (ROBOR) dipped to 15.25 percent from 15.31 percent.
Interbank interests for overnight deposits remained at 14-15 percent per year, above the annual key interest rate of 10 percent and the rate for the lombard credit of 14 percent a year.
