Raiffeisen estimates leu to be quoted at 4.10 lei/euro at the end of 2009
ACT Media – news agency - 4 Martie 2009
The leu will be quoted at 4.30 lei/euro at the end of March and then will appreciate to 4.10 lei/euro at the end of the year, analysts of the Austrian financial group Raiffeisen estimate in a report published on Tuesday.
The analysts noticed that the level of the euro/leu rate continues to maintain in a close interval and that the leu is less volatile than most similar currencies."In fact the leu remains almost at the same level in February. In our opinion the strong control of liquidities in the monetary market explains this evolution of the exchange rate," analyst Martin Stelzeneder shows in the mentioned report.
He reminded that Romania's cutrrency reserves dropped only by 90 million euros in February, which is not much if we consider the remarkable level of reserves (25.9 billion euros).According to data published by BNR on Monday, Romania's currency reserves dropped in February by 92 million euros, to 25.917 billion euros. Romania's international reserves - foreign exchange and gold - grew slightly in February to 28.401 billion euros as a result of higher gold prices.Raiffeisen estimates that the leu will be quoted at 4.25 lei/euro in June, 4.20 lei/euro in September and about 4.10 lei/euro in December.
The appreciation of the leu will come on the background of regional tendencies according to Raiffeisen analysts who foresee an appreciation of all currencies in the area. They estimate that the zloty will strengthen from 4.75 units/euro at present to 4.50 units/euro at the end of the year, but after a depreciation to 4.80 units/euro in September. The forint will end the year at 270 units/euro compared to 307 at present.
