ONRC: Ford, Schaeffler and Roche Romania, top investors’ hierarchy in January

Machine constructions and automotive parts, insurance, pharmaceutics and real estate development are the domains where companies from Romania attracted funds from mother. Ford automotive producer achieved, in the first month of this year, the highest capital raise, bringing more than EUR 200 M into the local company, which accounts for almost half of the total foreign investments volume representing capital contribution in January, based on the National Office Trade Registry (ONRC).
The amount is lower than the one mentioned by the company officials, which were saying early this year that the Administration Board of Craiova Automotive Plant approved the raise of Ford Romania equity capital by EUR 250 M. the funds will be used in tailoring Craiova based plant program to the future production.
The second ranks, in terms of high capital inflows, a players from the automotive industry, as well: Schaeffler Romania received from the German shareholder a capital contribution amounting to EUR 50 M. Roche Romania, active in pharmaceutical field, ranks the third, with a capital raise by EUR 37.7 M. Other important contributions were registered in case of Agri Consortium, with shareholders from Denmark, amounting to EUR 20.4 M, Asiban, with EUR 14.8 M. In the field of real estate developments, Bel Rom company contributed with almost EUR 25 M into three companies from Romania.
FDI dropped by 25 pc in the beginning of the year
Trade Registry data outlines that the foreign investments, brought as contribution to the equity capital of companies registered in Romania, amounted to EUR 417 M, in January 2009, by 25 per cent less than during the similar time period of the previous year but by 25 per cent over the level registered in the last month of 2008. In January 2008, foreign investments amounted to EUR 560 M, whereas in December 2008, they amounted to EUR 332 M. The number of newly established companies with foreign participation reduced, in the first month of the year, to 624, from 955, in January 2008. The capital contribution to the newly established companies amounted to EUR 3.3 M, by almost fine times less than compared to the first month of 2008. The foreign investments brought as contribution to the equity capital of companies registered in Romania amounted to EUR 3.9 bln. last year, by 62.5 per cent over the level reached in 2007.
