ECOFIN and European Commission announces readiness to support Romania
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 11 Martie 2009
Agerpres correspondent Tudor Martalogu reports: The chairmanship of the ECOFIN Council, bringing together the ministers of economy and finance from the EU, and the European Commission released, late on Tuesday, a declaration on the financial assistance on medium term for Romania, showing that 'taking into account the negative effects of the global financial crisis on the economic and financial situation in Romania, the chairmanship of the Council and the Commission announce the readiness of the European Union to support Romania to avert the risks related to the rise in pressure on the market, for the systematic correction of the imbalances.'
'The Commission is carrying out tight consultations with the Romanian authorities and the International Monetary Fund for the drawing up of a common answer viewing the improvement of the macroeconomic situation of Romania and support to the sustainability of the balance of payments, under the form of a pro-active package of multilateral financing of security.
The financial assistance is conditioned by the firm commitment of the Romanian authorities to implement a programme of measures of support. It is clearly necessary to mobilize all the interested forces and the policy instruments, with a view to continuing to ensure the macroeconomic and financial stability, for fiscal consolidation and sustainability.
The implementation of the policy conditions to be agreed on in the context of the mechanism of financial assistance of the EU will be monitored by the Commission, in cooperation with the economic and financial Committee, ' reads the common declaration of the ECOFIN Council and the European Commission.
