Individuals' crediting stagnates
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 12 Martie 2009
Individuals' crediting registered a relative stagnation in the first two months in 2009 compared to the similar period of 2008, whereas loan demand from the population declined by approximately 40 percent, according to the director general of the Credit Office (BC) Serban Epure, who took part on Wednesday in a banking seminar.
The number of credit reports issued by BC for banks and other loan societies (for the evaluation of the applicants, individuals' creditworthiness) dropped 40 percent from February 2008, reflecting a similar slump in loan demands, stated BC representative.
He stressed that the payment delays pace was in 2009 much higher than the crediting pace, but populations' delayed loan repayment continue to have a low weight in the credit balance account, below 1.5 percent of the total.
As for the debtors, Bucharest ceased to rank first as the number of overdue payments reported to the number of given credits, but dropped to the middle of the classification, whereas the top in this negative classification is occupied now by Giurgiu County.
'The portrait robot' of the people with overdue payments also modified - the bad debtor is no longer a Bucharest man, 35-39 years old, but a young man of 18-20, living in Giurgiu.
In the Credit Office system there are 30 banks, accounting for 98.74 percent of the market, 10 consumption credit companies and two leasing companies.
