Construction adhesives market slightly up in 2008

The Romanian construction cement-based adhesives market reached 900,000 tonnes in 2008, that is a growth by 12 percent on the previous year, reads the MarketScope research company.

Although the percentage last year was higher than the one in 2007, the value recorded stood below optimistic estimates announced by the main suppliers, read the conclusions of the study.The MarketScope consultants believe that the effects of the crisis were immediately felt in the construction sector in Romania, starting with the second half of the year, so that the annual growths on the various construction markets were generally below expectations.

According to the above-mentioned research, the polystyrene market saw a slowdown in terms of growth in volume compared with the previous year, a maximum plus 15 percent, unlike the expansion years, 2006 and 2007, when the growth stood at approximately 40-50 percent in volume. Moreover, the evolution of the adhesives and putty for ceramic plates segments was quite similar, with the growth rate decreasing in 2008.

With regards to the forecast for 2009, MarketScope specialists appreciated that the construction adhesives market is going to record a slight decrease or to stagnate, with the estimated volume having stood at 800-900 thousands tonnes.The initiator of the research, MarketScope, is a company specialized in market research and consultancy in marketing, having been set up in 2001 and having monitored for 5 years already the adhesives for plating.
