Relaunch of Romanian-Chinese trade exchanges

Minister of SMEs, Trade and Business Environment Constantin Nita on Tuesday met Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming when on an official visit to China, during which he plans to relaunch the bilateral economic relations, informs a release Agerpres received from the Ministry of SMEs, Trade and Business Environment (MIMMCMA) on Wednesday.
The Romanian Minister talked in Beijing with his counterpart about the intensification of the Romanian-Chinese trade relations, putting emphasis on identifying solutions to striking the trade balance that is adverse to Romania.
'Together with the Chinese Minister of Commerce we have tried to identify solutions meant to give a concrete form to some cooperation projects having a direct impact on the reduction of the deficit of the trade balance. The Romanian Government is also extremely interested in introducing new Romanian products on the Chinese market, in consolidating the existing ones as well as in attracting Chinese investments and financing to Romania,' said Constantin Nita.
The Chinese Minister said that the authorities in Beijing supported and encouraged the Chinese companies that are interested in investing in Romania. The two ministers agreed that, following the European integration, Romania can be one of the main partners of the People's Republic of China on the EU market.
Vice-chairmen of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Gang emphasized the importance of the economic and political relation between the two countries in the context of the 60th anniversary of the Romanian-Chinese diplomatic relations.
During the talks with the Chinese officials they also approached the subject of the world economic crisis and put emphasis on the message of the Bucharest Government according to which the limitation of the negative effects of the crisis on the Romanian economy can be achieved by a trade policy that should be open to traditional partners such as the People's Republic of China.
The Romanian officials proposed the Chinese side a list of 24 governmental, local and private projects with a view to some future cooperation partnerships in Romania.
The Romanian businessmen continued their meeting programme in Shanghai with the partners that were identified after the business seminar on March 30.
The Romanian delegation, which is headed by Minister of SMEs, Trade and Business Environment Constantin Nita, includes officials of MIMMCMA, of the Ministry of Economy and the Romanian Government and an economic mission made up of representatives of 48 Romanian companies.
Over March 31-Aril 4, 2009 the Romanian official delegation is in Beijing where it continues its meeting programme with governmental local officials as well as with Chinese businessmen.
The People's Republic of China is Romania's most important trade partner in Asia and comes second in exports and first in imports.
On December 31, 2008 the total volume of Romania's trade exchanges with the People's Republic of China stood at 3.80 billion dollars, of which exports accounted for 270.17 million dollars and imports for 3.80 billion dollars. On December 31, 2008 too there were 9,432 Chinese trading companies and Romanian-Chinese joint ventures, the value of the Chinese investments in Romania being 330 million dollars (the 17th in the general classification of the countries that invested in Romania).
