Vice-President of the European Commission Margot Wallstrom, who is responsible for the institutional relations and communications strategy, will pay a visit to Romania on Tuesday to meet the speakers of the two houses of Parliament as well as students and women involved in lobbying.
Early in the day, Wallstrom will meet Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana and then she will attend a round table marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain hosted by Parliament Palace. Addressing the round table debates will be Geoana, Speaker of the Deputies' Chamber Roberta Anastase and head of the European Affairs Department Vasile Puscas.
Later on Tuesday, the European Commission vice-president will meet Bucharest university students and will take part in debates on woman's role in today's Europe, the gender parity in politics and the moves initiated by Romania to back the '50/50' European campaign.
Wallstrom's visit is taking place as the European Commission has begun a campaign meant to inform the European Union member states' population about the elections for the European Parliament to be held on June 4-7 in all 27 members of the bloc.
