45 million euro projects signed by Minister Blaga

Minister of Regional Development and Housing Vasile Blaga late last week, in Satu Mare (north-western Romania), signed three contracts on financing by means of the Regional Operational Programme for the counties of Satu Mare and Maramures (northern Romania), worth about 45 million euros.

The projects aim at rehabilitating the road transport infrastructure in a few important places in northern Romania as well as some historical monuments included in the tour of mediaeval towns in northern Transylvania.

According to the local authorities, the investments will contribute to the development of the small local strawberry growers in this part of Romania, to the intensification of the road traffic, to the preservation of the cultural and architectural values and to the stimulation of tourism.

All the projects will be financed by the European Union, the local authorities contributing only 2 percent and the national budget, 12 percent.

Minister Vasile Blaga insisted on making it clear that the speed of drawing funds increased very much and asked the local authorities to organize tenders for their projects. Blaga suggested the county authorities to set up associations of inter-community development in order to be able to submit European projects on equipping the inspectorates for emergency situations.
