Romania-Serbia agreement on ferry trips across the Danube
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 16 Aprilie 2009
The City Halls of Romania's Drobeta Turnu Severin (Mehedinti County) and Serbia's Kladovo on Wednesday signed a cooperation agreement for the organization of ferry trips across the Danube for Mehedinti County visitors.
Drobeta Turnu Severin mayor Constantin Gherghe told Agerpres that the first cruise will depart the city port on April 23 and all passengers aboard ship ‘Gherdap' will travel for free until April 26.
'Sailing on board of the Serbian-flagged ship, the tourists will be able to have a close look at the Iron Gates I dam, the ruins of Emperor Trajan's bridge on both banks of the Danube and the Simian isle where the Ada-Kaleh fortress was moved in 1972,' said Gherghe.
Kladovo City Hall representative Mikhailo Vasieljevic said that trips between the two river banks, which were discontinued ten years ago, will open Romanian and Serbian companies the possibility to strengthen relations and revive tourism development partnerships.
