Romania’s currency plunges to 4.2197 over the euro, on regional flow

The national currency slipped to 4.2197 over the single European one by the reference exchange rate of the central bank BNR, taken down by a regional wave.
Wednesday BNR had the leu at 4.1736 over the euro. Earlier today the leu began to fall from 4.1870 to 4.2265 against the euro and 1.15 p.m. banks were buying the euro for 4.2190 and selling it for 4.2300.
The market seems to be calming down after large deals this morning, especially foreign currency buying which burdened the leu, chief of treasury with Volksbank Romania, Ciprian Mihai said. In the region the Polish zloty depreciated from 4.2717 to 4.3190 over the euro and then waved around 4.29. The Hungarian forint lost ground from 288.50 to 292.85 against the euro.
As for the American currency, BNR pinned the leu at 3.2084, from Wednesday's 3.1492. The dollar appreciated on international markets from 1.3267 to 1.3128 over the euro. BNR posted an average interbank bid rate (ROBID) of 9.33 percent a year, below yesterday's 10.01 percent and an interbank offer rate for overnight deposits (ROBOR) of 10.51 percent , from 9.98 percent.Interbank interests for overnight deposits keep framing the annual main interest rate of 10 percent.
