Alsace region opens economic representation in Brasov
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 22 Aprilie 2009
Representation to Romania of the French economic agency 'Alsace International' was inaugurated on Tuesday in Brasov (north-west of Bucharest).
Attending this event, the President of Alsace region, Adrien Zeller, stated that, following the opening of representations in China, Japan, USA, Poland, Austria, Italy, Russia, India, Israel, Canada and Brazil, Romania was selected in the Southeastern Europe region because 'there is a Romanian community in Alsace, representing several pillars for the economic life'.
'And also because we are putting our trust in Romania', he added.
Between Romania and Alsace there is a long time relation, started 12 years ago and, via the new representation, economic partnerships can be concluded in industrial, agricultural, tourism, automotive industries and other fields.
Adrien Zeller said he visited Romania for the first time ten years ago and Brasov for a third time. In the past five years he noted that our country made a lot of progress and he is convinced that there are and will be many cooperation opportunities, mainly in the small and medium-sized companies area.
On the occasion of the inauguration of French economic agency 'Alsace International' representation to Romania an agreement of cooperation between the Alsace region and the presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry in Brasov, Arges, Prahova, Mures, Galati and Timis counties was signed, and it is expected that the other counties will adhere to this accord, set to launch a mutual information activity in real time between the regions. Through this agreement, enterprises located in these regions will steadily benefit of economic information related to the other member regions and will find out in real time all business opportunities which might arise.
Based on this accord, the signatory parties will help the development of economic exchanges at all levels between the respective regions in Romania and France. Of all agreement signatory counties, France is in the lead according to invested capital in Arges County due to the presence of Renault company and in the other counties it ranks third, fourth and fifth.
In Brasov County there are 231 commercial companies with French capital and Total Lubrifianti, Eurocopter and Hatchinson are the top three. French investments rank second in this county, following the German ones, and in Romania France is ranking fourth according to the foreign investments.
Last year, the commercial exchanges between Romania and France attained 5.5 billion euros.
Some 5,000 Romanians live in Alsace region, of whom a few dozens run bigger businesses. As well, Alsace with 1,829,909 inhabitants on January 1, 2009, is the only region in France with full autonomy as for the management of European funds, having a major experience in their administration.
