Non-governmental credit drops by 2.1 pct in March

Non-governmental credits to credit institutions dropped by 2.1 percent in March, 2009, (minus 2.6 percent in real terms), against February, 2009, down to 20.261 billion lei, Romanian National Bank (BNR) announced on Monday.
Thus, credits granted in the national currency leu shrank by 0.9 percent (minus 1.4 percent in real terms), while the foreign currency credits expressed in lei dropped by 2.9 percent (expressed in euro, the foreign currency credits dropped by 1.6 percent).
The non-governmental credit recorded a growth by 23.1 percent (15.4 percent in real terms) on March 31, 2009, against March 31, 2008, due to an increase by 12 percent in the component in lei (5 percent in real terms) and by 32.1 percent in the component in foreign currency expressed in lei (expressed in euros, the growth in the foreign currency credit stood at 16.3 percent).
