Investment in advertising, on the decrease

Eight out of the ten categories of top advertisers have recorded a drop in the amounts invested in advertising, in the first quarter of 2009, against the same period of 2008, according to data supplied by Alfacont, Business Standard daily reports.
The car industry is in the lead, with a decrease of 49 percent in the advertising investment, from 162 million euro to 98.3 million euro, followed by the financial-banking sector with a 44 percent drop from 49.2 million euro to 27.8 million euro and the non-alcoholic beverages, down 43 percent, from 65.4 million euro to 37 million euro.
There is however a segment that recorded an increase in the advertising investment, namely, the sweets sector, from 54 million euro to 58.3 million euro, while the medicines are the only constant category.
Ovidiu Florea, Media Investment managing partner, sys that medicines do not register important fluctuations at time of crisis, as they are needed irrespective of the economic situation.
