Romanians trade more on Stock Exchange in April

Brokerage houses working with retail investors have dominated top brokers on the Stock Exchange in April, after successive years of losing the battle to foreigners' brokers.BT Securities, which is a brokerage company working mainly with Romanian investors, intermediated the largest share trades on the Bucharest Stock Exchange last week, according to Ziarul financiar daily, having also ranked 1st a month before that.
BT Securities brokered trades in April worth 116.7 million lei, almost double on the figure in March and almost three times the one in February, when the Stock Exchange reached a historic minimum. The brokers from the BT have managed in no more than 4 months to reach the largest market share, of 9.67 percent, and total transactions worth 316.5 million lei, including from deals and liabilities, on the domestic market.
Carpatica Invest brokerage house, a retail broker having ranked 8th among brokers last year, managed to climb the next step in April, up to the 3rd position, with total trades worth 58.1 million lei. IFB Finwest, another broker working with Romanian investors, ranked 4th, with turnover worth 56.3 million lei, after ending last year 7th.The retail companies' position in the broker-deals ranking in the latest two month came in the context the Stock Exchange recorded in March and April some of its best evolutions in the latest years, with many of the shares seeing now their values doubled. Nevertheless, such growths came after several months of continuous fall, during which the shares lost sometimes even ten times their value.
EFG Eurobank Securities managed to reach the top position in April, in the broker-deals ranking, with 121 million lei, thanks to the transaction in which SIF Oltenia sold its 22.5 percent stake in Automobile Craiova (AUCS) to Ford, in a deal worth 18 million euros, with the broker helping the buyer.
The same deal helped Voltinvest brokerage climb 30 steps in the broker-deals ranking, to the 4th position, after intermediating for SIF Oltenia.KBC Securities, the most important broker of foreign investors on the market ranked 2nd, with trades worth 88 million lei.Unicredit CAIB Securities Romania and Raiffeisen Capital and Investment, two of the local brokerage companies working mainly with foreign investors, especially with investment funds, dropped to the 5th and 6th position respectively, with trades worth 54 million lei each.
Broker Cluj (BRK), the single brokerage company listed, has brokered trades worth 41.5 million lei, ranking 2nd in April and 10th since the beginning of the year.The Stock Exchange climbed in April by 25.6 percent, recording thus the best monthly evolution in the latest four years and two months.
The BET-C general index of the Stock Exchange climbed 27.8 percent in 2005 and it has never recorded a higher growth pace since then.
