AmCham requests that the government eliminate the lump-sum tax

Investor members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, AmCham, have criticized the introduction of the lump-sum tax which recently went into effect, and are interested in recommending to the government a set of measures to modify the Fiscal Code, which would include the cancelation of this tax.
"AmCham is against the minimum tax in Romania. This measure will not generate revenues and will certainly not stimulate the economic environment," said Ionut Simion, member of the Board of Directors of AmCham Romania and Tax Partner of the PricewaterhouseCoopers advisory company.
AmCham representatives said that the government could have found other solutions than the lump-sum tax, and accuse the Romanian authorities of not wanting to consult them before deciding to introduce this tax."If we had consulted prior to the adoption of the lump-sum tax, we would certainly have found other solutions.
The minimum tax does not solve problems. They should have taken measures for improving ANAF's [National Agency for Fiscal Administration] tax collection process by monitoring companies with losses, and ensuring that taxes and fees are paid on time," Simion added.
