Romania's Tourism Ministry (MT) uses about 40 percent of the budget to advertise Romania, respectively 3.2 million euros, to promote the country to foreign tourists, the Tourism Minister Elena Udrea declared today.
The total budget alloted by MT to promote Romania was of 10 million euros, but 2 million euros were lost in an older trial, so only 8 million euros are available to advertise Romania as a touristic destination, Udrea mentioned.
She added the amount available to promote Romania abroad is not so big, taking into account that Greece benefits from a 75 million euro promotion budget and Spain from 450 million euros.
Romania can rely on 2 million euros of European funds to create the national tourism brand. The country will also receive 73 million euros from the European Union by 2013 to promote it.
MT announced on May 5 it had received offers to create the national touristic brand from 13 companies from Great Britain, United States, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Portugal and Romania. The ministry's commission will check offers and sift the companies for the second part of the auction, when the technical offers will be handed in and evaluated.
The ministry is currently working at a law for tourism which will be sent to the Parliament by July 1 and which aims to sanction accommodation owners from the seaside resorts that will not open their units on May 15, Udrea also said.
She deems the law will enter into force by the end of the year.
According to Udrea, many hotels close gates at the seaside after May 1.
The Tourism Ministry spent some 380,000 euros to organize different events at the seaside and in the northern region of Bucovina during the Easter Holidays and the International Labor Day (May 1).
