Next meeting of foreign banks in Romania within six months
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 20 Mai 2009
A new meeting of the nine main foreign banks in Romania will be held within six months, Steven van Groningen, president of Raiffeisen Bank Romania, told the Central and Southeast European Financial Forumin in Bucharest on Wednesday.
The parent banks of the nine biggest foreign banks in Romania on Tuesday, in Brussels, stated again the pledge they took in Vienna, on March 26, to support their subsidiaries in this country.
According to the European Commission, the pledges taken by the parent banks, together with the support package meant to strike the balance of payments, will be able to help the banking system in Romania to better cope with the current crisis, to build again the confidence of the investors and to direct the economy again to the road of a sustainable growth.
A first such meeting took place in Vienna, on March 26, when they also planned the meeting on May 19. Similar meetings are held for other countries that get support to strike their balance of payments.
The banks agreed to support the subsidiaries in Romania in order to confirm the fact that the sound financial situation they have now will be maintained all along this period characterized by turbulence on international markets and by a slowdown of the economic activity with a view to demonstrating their long-term pledge to the development of Romanian economy.
