Companies to get access to 10,000 cars through old car scrap program starting with September
NewsIn - 3 Iunie 2009
Firms in Romania will be able to change their vehicles older than 10 years with new ones in the third phase of the old car scrap "Rabla" program to start on September 1, declared the Environment Minister, Nicolae Nemirschi.
The premium for bringing old cars in exchange for new ones will stand at 3,800 lei.
"Companies will benefit from the program for three fiscal years, until 2011," said Nemirschi, adding that a total 60,000 units will be allocated, starting with 10,000 units in September.
The first stage of the old car scrap program ended on May 29 and a new stage starts at June 1 and lasts until the end of August. The last stage this year is scheduled from September 1 to December 11. So far, the Romanian produced Dacia, a Renault brand, was the hit when it came to purchases.
Until now 11,500 cars were sold, out of the 20,000 available, which accounts for 20 percent of the cars sold on the Romanian market. Through the program the state grants a subsidy to buy a new car in exchange of the old one. So far, it paid 45.2 million from the Environment Fund, out of the total 76 million lei available. The whole year budget stands at 228 million lei.
In two years the European Union could adopt a directive asking that non-euro cars be taken away from the roads. Last year there were about 3 million non-euro cars in Romania.
