World Environment Day 2009 - an opportunity for Blue Danube

'An opportunity for the Blue Danube' was the theme of the events organized in this week-end with the participation of Bucharest Apa Nova company, on the occasion of the World Environment Day 2009.
Apa Nova representatives, accompanied by the delegates of countries in the Danube's hydro basin and other guests representing environment protection organizations, environment studies university schools, took part these days in the 'Eco type' tourist track in Tulcea town (east) and in the Danube Delta - Sfantu Gheorghe branch.
In Tulcea, Apa Nova is to financially support the establishment of a park on a surface of 2.5 hectares, till May 2010. The park is set to have modern functions and will benefit of lighting installations, embankments, benches, children's playing and leisure areas, an artesian fountain.
In Sfantu Gheorghe, a seminar is ongoing on Saturday with participants from all the countries in the Danube basin, generically called 'Sfantu Gheorghe - Veolia Green Capital', organized by the local town hall.
Various exhibitions and projects on the environment protection are presented during this seminar.
In the opening of this meeting, Apa Nova General Manager Bruno Roche pointed out that, for two days, 'Veolia Green Capital' in Sfantu Gheorghe is surpassing Romania's borders. 'I am happy to be here, in Sfantu Gheorghe, and we continue to celebrate the World Environment Day after, in Crivina, we succeeded to change for one day the Danube's flow, by bringing water samples from all the places crossed by its flow to pour them into Arges river', said Roche, who pointed out that the Danube Delta is a unique natural reservation where more than 300 species of pelicans live, as well as unique such bird colonies are found.
In his turn, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Bucharest Petr Dokladal said that his country aids Romania to fulfill the European norms in the field of wastewater purification. 'I appreciate Veolia's activity also from the educational standpoint. Romania can use structural financial resources to improve the surrounding environment. To accomplish that, it needs good projects and efficient implementation means', stated the Ambassador.
The Ambassador also said there are several important regional project in the environment field, such as 'the Black Sea Synergy' and the 'Eastern Partnership', set to be debated in the Europe's Council in two weeks time. 'The Danube strategy will be discussed in the European Union framework, occasion for the promotion of all projects aimed at this zone. This strategy will be launched in 2011', said the Ambassador, stressing he wishes that Romania enjoys its natural beauty and becomes the 'garden of Europe, because it deserves that'.
World Environment Day is marked these days by Veolia Co., through Bucharest Apa Nova, also through some trips to the Danube Delta.
