Ford production in Craiova, since September with 90 cars a day

Ford Romania will begin, starting in September, the production of the model Transit Connect at the plant in Craiova, with a rate of 60-90 units a day, and the final tests of the production lines being planned for the half of the month of August, sources from Ford Romania told Business Standard.

The plant in Craiova currently employs 3,700 people, hiring new people is not taken into account until the end of the year. Production will start in the month of Sept, as planned. The testing will start around Aug 15. For the start, the production will begin around Aug 15. For the start, work will be in one shift, produced will be between 60 and 90 units a day, and subsequently, function of the demand on the market, the production will increase and additional shifts are introduced. Practically, the workers assemble and disassemble the cars and participate in theoretical courses about them, according to the officials of Ford Romania.

The source said that the producer will support the development in Romania of investment made by the own suppliers and partnerships with companies already active in the local market.

Ford took over Automobile Craiova at the beginning of last year, for 57 million euros, with the American producer committing itself to make direct investment worth 675 million euros for the modernization of the plant and to the increase in the number of employees.

Ford Europe will build starting this year, at the plant in Craiova, the model Transit Connect, and starting 2010, the hatchback of Fusion small class. The American builder announced, when it took over the plant, that it will produce, starting 2012, in Craiova, 300,000 vehicles and 300,000 engines annually.
