AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 15 Iunie 2009
Carturesti Group holding a bookshop chain in Bucharest, Timisoara (west), Cluj (central), Constanta (south east), Iasi (east) and Suceava (north-east) earned a turnover worth 1.95 million euros in the first four months of the year, by 29 percent more than last year when it opened five new units, the Ziarul financiar daily informs.
'We borrowed a new credit for investments, last year. Although the economic situation changed, I think that opening new bookshops was adequate. We make long-term investments and recoup them in 4-6 years,' said Nicoleta Dumitru, who along with Serban Radu own the Carturesti bookshops.
Carturesti ran business worth 5.3 million euros in 2008, by 43 percent more that in the year before. The books sales bring almost 60 percent of its turnover and the remainder 40 percent comes from selling music, film DVDs, tea and other products.
Dumitru expects a higher turnover in 2009 than a year before, taking into account that the retail space is larger now.
The investments totaled round 600,000 euros in 2009, which means a new terrace and a coffee shop 250 sqm large, to open soon and to pay the finishing the works of the bookshop and the coffee shop to open at the Bucharest-based French Institute.
The average book consumption on the Romanian market stays at bellow 3 euros per capita, which ranks Romania last among the EU countries, the Ziarul financiar concludes.
