BNR: Crediting activity to speed up towards the end of Q3 2009
Nine o'Clock - 19 Iunie 2009
The crediting activity will speed up "towards the end of the third quarter or the beginning of the fourth quarter," declared the director of the Monitoring Division from BNR, Nicolae Cinteza, who expects a growth of the balance of the non-governmental credit at the end of 2009 vs. the end of the past year, The Money Channel informs.
"Towards the end of the third quarter or the beginning of the fourth quarter this year we shall register an increased crediting activity, also thanks to the First House programme. Moreover, if we look at what happens with the interest rates of the deposits we see that they fall, but it takes around three months until these modifications are transferred also to the interest rates of the credits," Nicolae Cinteza said on The Money Channel. He declared that he expects an advance of the non-governmental credit at the end of 2009 compared to the end of 2008.
The volume of the credits granted by banks to the population and firms fell in April for the second month in a row, by 1 per cent vs. the previous month, to RON 200.55 bln (EUR 47.9 bln), while the annual growth rate decreased to 18.9 per cent, calculated in nominal terms, from 23.1 per cent in March, according to BNR data. In March, the nongovernmental credit had fallen 2.1 per cent against February, the month when a slight advance was registered in nominal terms and at the value equated in RON.
The banking system will close the year with a plus
The banking system will close this year on profit, Nicolae Cinteza considers, in the conditions in which in April the Romanian banks had, at aggregate level, a profit of EUR 20 M, The Money Channel informs. "I believe that the banking system will close the year with a plus. April showed us that the banks have already made the first step, but we should not rejoice at it, because their step is the result of the measure adopted by BNR (regarding the calculation of the provisions - editor's note), to align gradually to the international financial reporting standards," Cinteza added on The Money Channel, considering the activity of the banks as "fruitful."
The functioning of a bank with fully Romanian capital to be authorized in July
BNR will grant most probably in July the authorization to operate to a credit institution with entirely Romanian capital, the Board of the central bank discussing now this issue, the director of the Monitoring Division from BNR, Nicolae Cinteza, declared on Thursday, HotNews.ro informs. 43 banks, branches of foreign banks and Creditcoop included, operate now on the Romanian market. Of the aforementioned, six are banks with majority domestic capital (CEC Bank, Banca Transilvania, Eximbank, Banca Comerciala Carpatica, Libra Bank and Creditcoop), the remaining 36 having majority foreign capital.
