AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 19 Iunie 2009
The German Siemens giant, one of the world's main wind turbine manufacturers, intends to enter onto the Romanian market, where business has a potential of several tens of billions of euro. Siemens will also participate in all auctions to be organized by investors in wind energy, said company officials, quoted by Business Standard.
The Siemens announcement comes after the arrival on the local market of its most important global rivals, such as U.S. General Electric (GE), Spanish Gamesa, Danish Vestas, and Indian Suzlon, which have all opened offices in preparation for auctions, and have already received orders.
'We will participate in all auctions exceeding one million euro, including CEZ, Verbund, RWE, and anyone else now organizing aeolian auctions,' said Petru Ruset, Manager of the Energy Products Solutions & Services Division of Siemens SRL. He further indicated that Siemens is preparing document for the auction organized by the Czech CEZ company for the Cogealac wind project in two weeks. According to market sources, the contract could be worth some 270 million euros.
Wednesday evening, Siemens presented its new Siemens SRL Romania management, including Cristian Secosan, who moves from his position as General Manager of E.ON Moldova Furnizare to become Chief Executive Officer of the Romanian Siemens branch, confirming information published by Business Standard on 9 June. Secosan will take over from the interim CEO Wolfgang Flandorfer.
The German company is enjoying growth in Romania and does not plan any layoffs, according to an announcement during the presentation of the new management team by Brigitte Ederer, Siemens CEO for Central and Eastern Europe and President of Siemens Austria, which coordinates the company's activities in 19 countries. 'This is crisis time, but not as bad as we expected. We are an infrastructure company and funds are still being invested in this area,' said Ederer.
