Spain-Romania business meeting to promote trade and investments, says Prince of Asturias

Bucharest, July 28 /Agerpres/ - Economic and commercial relations between Spain and Romania have seen a remarkable development after 2003 when, in the presence of His Majesty the King of Spain, the latest bilateral forum for investments and cooperation took place in Bucharest, stated on Tuesday His Royal Highness The Prince of Asturias at the conclusion of Spain-Romania business meeting.
'Our bilateral trade multiplied six times after 2000, up to the level of two billion euros in 2006. Spain is at present one of the main countries according to its direct investments in Romania', added His Royal Highness.
In 2007, direct Spanish investments amounted at 474 million euros, accounting for 3.4 percent of the overall investments in Romania. As for the share capital, the Spanish companies invested in Romania more than 800 million euros till April 2009, Spain ranking eighth in terms of the invested capital.
Spanish exports to Romania followed a steady upward trend after 2000, increasing by 37.6 percent over 2000-2005. In 2007, the Spanish exports were in the value of 883 million euros and last year they exceeded the value of one billion euros.
On the occasion of the official visit to Romania of Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias a meeting of Spanish and Romanian business people was organized on Tuesday in the aim to promote commercial relations and investments.
Officials from the ministries of Transport and Infrastructure, Regional Development and Housing and of Public Finances informed the representatives of approximately 50 Spanish companies about the business opportunities offered by Romania in the infrastructure sector, based on lease financing or European funds.
