Gov't to initiate new para-fiscal tax cut

The Government has approved a memorandum concerning the initiation of the second stage in the reduction of the number of para-fiscal rates and taxes, Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea reported on Wednesday.

Pogea said that an inter-ministerial panel will convene before August 7 to analyse the para-fiscal rates and taxes currently in force in Romania and it will have by September 30 to initiate the approval of a cut by the Government.

'The inter-ministerial panel will be in place by August 7 and it will proceed with analysing and assessing all the rates and taxes that are not regulated by ministries. The drawing up of the normative acts requested will have to start on September 15 and the initiation of the approval procedure on September 30. We want the second stage in the cut of para-fiscal rates and taxes to start in September. Many of such rates and taxes only have taxpayers travelling and in many instances the administration costs of them are higher than the revenues they generate,' said Pogea.

For a start, the Government approved the reduction of 191 para-fiscal rates and taxes.
