Foreigners pump more than EUR 150m in Romanian insurance companies in H1, data show

External capital infusions in Romania's insurance companies exceeded 150 million euros in the first semester, versus 113 million euros in the similar period last year, according to data of the Trade Registry Office (ONRC).
The highest capital injection in the first semester was completed by the French company Groupama, with more than 63.1 million euros. Insurer BT Asigurari received 21.65 million euros of the amount to increase its share capital, Asiban got 35 million euros and OTP Garancia 6.4 million euros.
Uniqa Asigurari, former Unita, received from its Austrian shareholders 41.7 million euros to hike the share capital, while KD Life raised its capital by 14.7 million euros in the first half.
Aviva Asigurari de Viata increased its share capital by 7.68 million euros in February.
Romania's insurance market inched 5.55 percent in the first semester, to 4.67 billion lei, according to preliminary data of the market watchdog CSA.
In 2008, about two thirds of the local insurers ended in the red, the net loss on the market amounting to 158 million euros.
