Nine o'Clock - 3 Septembrie 2009
Banks and non-banking financial institutions may request a larger amount of information from their customers than the minimum stipulated by the Central bank (BNR) regulations regarding data about customers, regardless of the banking product or service they are using or requesting, The Romanian Banks Association (ARB) and the Central bank informed, a communiqué sent to Nine O' Clock reads.
"BNR regulations establish the minimum standards for the elaboration by credit and financial institutions included in the Special Registry of their own norms of information about customers, as an essential part of managing the risk of money laundering and financing terrorism. Under these circumstances, the request of information by any unit may have a wider area than the minimum mentioned in the rules," the joint press release shows.
The two institutions are pointing out that, regardless of the banking product or service the customers are using or requesting, they must supply all the demanded information in order to make sure that the performing of the requested transactions is not delayed until the information is updated.
