Inflation rate in August

The inflation rate stood at 0.4 percent this August, compared with the month of July, and the annual inflation (Sept 2008-Aug 2009) went down to 4.96 percent, according to the data published, on Thursday, by the National Statistics Institute, INS.
Compared with July, the consumer prices fell 0.19 percent, against the background of the decrease in the prices of foods, and of the slight rise in the prices of non-foods and services, says INS.
According to it, the average inflation rate, Jan 1 - Aug 31, 2009, was of 0.4 percent, compared with 0.5 percent in the same period of 2008.
Since the beginning of this year, in the consumption cost, on the basis of which INS calculates inflation, foodstuffs hold a share of 37.58 percent, the non-foods of 44.05 percent, and the services of 18.37 percent.
BNR is targeting for the end of this year a 3.5 percent inflation, plus or minus a percentage point, and its latest prognosis shows a level of inflation of 4.3 percent, on Dec 31.
