Lending–Crediting in Romania ups in August after five months of decline,annual advance slows at 8.2%

The volume of credits granted to people and companies advanced 0.4 percent in August versus July after five months of decline, to 198.68 billion lei, but the annual growing rate braked at 8.2 percent, from 10.8 percent in the previous month, according to data published by the central bank (BNR).
In July, the nongovernmental credit lowered 0.1 percent over the previous month, following a 0.5 percent slide in June, a 0.7 percent decline in May, a 1 percent drop in April and a 2.1 percent decrease in March. Lending stood at 197.9 billion lei at the end of July.
From the peak reached at the end of February, of 206.89 billion lei, the credit lost 8.21 billion lei in six months. The annual growing rate lowered about four times in the first eight months, from 33.7 percent in December 2008.
In real terms, considering the inflation, credits granted to people and companies rose only 3.1 percent in the period August 2008 - August 2009, the central bank also shows.
Crediting in lei diminished in August by 0.2 percent month-on-month, to 79.74 billion lei and decreased by 4.5 percent year-on-year, above the 2.5 percent decline in the interval July 2008 - July 2009.
The foreign currency loans expressed in lei added 0.8 percent in August versus July, to 118.94 billion lei. In euros, the annual increase of foreign currency loans was of only 0.6 percent.
The credits expressed in lei and given to the population slipped in August by 0.1 percent to 39.45 billion lei, while those granted to companies reduced 0.3 percent to 40.3 billion lei.
As to the foreign currency loans, households reached a balance of 60.1 billion lei on August 31, a 0.3 percent inch over the end of July and 19.5 percent up from the end of August 2008. The credits given to the companies grew 1.4 percent versus July to 58.813 billion lei, and stay up by 18 percent against the same month in 2008.
The governmental credit reduced 0.6 percent in August to 44.7 billion lei, but rose four-fold from the same month last year.
