Romanian-Italian commercial exchanges by 21.8 pc lower in H1
ACT Media - 5 Octombrie 2009
The commercial exchanges between Romania and Italy went down by 21.8 percent, in the first half of the year, compared to the similar time span in 2008, amounting to 4.4 billion euros, when imports and exports were relatively equal totaling about 2.2 billion euros each, Romania's Ambassador to Rome Razvan Rusu told Agerpres.
'The Romanian exports to Italy dropped by 19.3 percent during this period, while the imports from Italy curbed by 35.2 percent. Therefore, despite the very big decreases brought about by the economic downturn, we scored positive developments in the Romanian exports and the imports and the exports were balanced,' Ambassador Rusu stressed.
He added that this beyond-expectations development of the Romanian exports to Italy was much owed to the Sandero and the Logan models Dacia carmaker sold on the Italian market where they enjoyed considerable success, and which the Italian Government granted substantial scrappage bonuses.
The commercial exchanges between Romania and Italy totaled round 12 billion euros in 2008, Italy being Romania's second biggest commercial partner, after Germany.
