Tanasescu: Third tranche of IMF loan in December
Agerpres - 28 Octombrie 2009
The third tranche of the loan secured from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could come in December, Mihai Tanasescu, Romania's representative to the IMF and former Finance Minister on Wednesday declared in a public radio broadcast.
Tanasescu also stated his belief that default on salary or pension payments in the period ahead is out of question.
'The third tranche might come in December. Following talks with my IMF colleagues, we agreed to discuss this new revision in the Board somewhere around mid-December. This is a test for us, Romanians, for Romania's capability to meet certain requirements from both Brussels and Washington. This is about reforming the system, which unfortunately hit some less desirable peaks,' explained Tanasescu.
According to the cited official, these days when IMF, European Commission (EC) and World Bank (WB) delegations are simultaneously in Bucharest for talks with the Romanian authorities 'are a moment of truth when all those politically and socially involved will have to make a joint effort.'
'I trust that following the talks held these days between the IMF and the European Commission on one side and state institutions and political parties on the other side, we will succeed in reaching that consensus that should pave the way, in the years ahead, towards the settlement of the problem challenging us today,' said Mihai Tanasescu. He added that a shift or default on the payment of wages or pensions is out of question in December and actually in the years ahead.
