Ghetea: We'll have fluctuations of exchange rate in the upcoming period
ACT Media - 29 Octombrie 2009
The exchange rate will fluctuate in the upcoming period because of the crisis and of the political situation, however it will not get out of the National Bank of Romania's (BNR) control, said on Tuesday Radu Gratian Ghetea, president of the Romanian Banking Association (ARB) at a banking seminar devoted to crediting.
'In the upcoming period there will be fluctuations of the exchange rate, ranging from 4.2-4.3 lei to even 4.4 percent, but this will occur because of several circumstances, however I am convinced that BNR will keep the exchange rate under control,' said Ghetea. He said that as regards the crediting in lei (national currency) it would be helped by a cut in the intervention interest and of the compulsory minimal reserve.
'We have already a rise in the crediting in lei for companies and by the end of the year there will be a rise for the crediting to individuals alike. I believe we'll have interest rates of 10 percent for the deposits in lei by the end of the year and of 15 percent at most for loans,' said Ghetea.
