Statistics: The decreasing trend in the constructions sector

The economic activity will record a drop, between November 2009 - January 2010 against the previous three months, the most accellerated being in the sector of constructions, according to the opinions expressed in November 2009 by the managers of the commercial societies, gathered by the INS.
According to INS, the estimates of managers in November 2009 shows that the activity in constructions will record, by the end of January 2010, a trend to drop both of the volume of productions ( conjectural balance - 49 percent) as well as the volume of contracts and orders ( short term balance - 47 percent).
In the investigation of conjuncture in November 2009, the managers of the manufacturing industry estimate for the next three months, a drop in the volume of production ( short term balance - 16 percent). At the same time, as regards the number of employees it is estimated a drop, the short term balance being -19 percent for manufacturing industry ( -25 percent for big enterprises with 500 employees).
For some of the activities there will be a trend of decrease much more accellerated than per total, in metallurgy for example; production of metallurgy and oil processing; wood processing, wooden products, with the exception of furniture ( short term balance - 60percent, 45 percent and 40 percent respectively). For the prices of industrial products, there is a trend of moderate growth for the next three months ( short term balance - +6 percent).
According to INS data, in November 2009, the managers in the retail sector estimated a moderate drop of the economic activity for November, December and January 2010 ( short term balance - 9 percent). The total volume of goods sales will have a tendency to stability ( short term balance - 2 percent) and the volume of orders addressed by commercial units to suppliers will have a moderate drop ( short term balance - 6 percent).
Employers estimate a moderate drop of the number of employees in this sector ( short term balance - 14 percent) by the end of January 2010. The managers of commercial societies estimate that selling retail prices will grow ( short term balance +20 percent). According to estimates in November 2009, the turnover will have a moderate drop ( short term balance - 13percent). In the services sector there is estimated a drop of the number of employees ( short term balance -23 percent) this tendency being given by big companies ( 500 employees and over). According to the opinion of managers, the selling prices or billing of services will have a tendency to drop ( short term balance - 6 percent).
INS says that the short term balance shows the perception of interviewed on the dynamics of this phenomenon but it mustn't be mistaken with the intensity of the growth or the drop in value of a statistics indicator. Thus, the thresholds of interpreting the short term balance established that up to +/- 5 percent represents a relative stability; from +/- 6 percent up to +/-15 percent is moderate growth or moderate decrease; from +/-16 percent up to +/- 40 percent growth, respectively drop; over +/-40 percent accelerated growth, respectively accelerated drop.
Short term balance is calculated on the basis of data processed and aggregated according CAEN Rev.2According INS, the investigations were made on the basis of representative samples in the domain of manufacturing ( 2070 companies), constructions ( 1,258) retail ( 2,678) and services (2,081). The size of samples was established so that error margin could be +/- 5 percent at sector level.
