Vladescu: 2010 will record economic growth
ACT Media - 6 Ianuarie 2010
Sebastian Vladescu, the minister of public finance declared on Tuesday for Mediafax that 2010 "will be a year of growth" but pointed out that the Romanians' living standard will not change.
"2010 will be a year of growth. The present living standard of the Romanians, which is lower than the European one, will be maintained. At the same time we are aware the living standard grew faster in 2007 and 2008 than Romanian economy could bear," the finance minister said. In 2007 Romania registered an economic growth of 6% while in 2008 GDP grew by 7.1% in real terms.
"The citizen is not aware. He cannot be turned back to be told: you received too much at a certain moment and now we are taking it back. We are making efforts that what was received in advance should stay there. That means the citizen enjoys a better anticipated standard," Vladescu explained. He did not make an estimate about the advance Romanian economy could register in 2010.
"As for the effect of economic growth, it will be felt in a reasonable period of time, two years from now. Economic growths of 2005 or 2006 will not be repeated soon. In 2010 people will be able to say: we have a job, we have security for the family. We have a state which started functioning better and we have a rising infrastructure," Vladescu continued.
Vladescu: We do not renegotiate the accord with IMF
Romania will not renegotiate the accord with IMF, but we will have talks with IMF representatives for additional amounts of money for development, without an increase of the budget deficit target, Vladescu said."We will not renegotiate the accord, we will eventually try to balance out wishes with those of our partners and supplement development. Supporting development is possible but not by a higher deficit. We should have talks with BNR, in relation to the passage to euro. So it is more complicated. For the time being we are within the frame of the present accord," Vladescu added. The level of the budget deficit will drop from 7.3% of GDP in 2009 to 5.9% this year, according to the accord concluded with IMF. At the same time, he showed that Romania will resume economic growth this year, but effects on the living standard will be felt after two year.
